Roadside Furniture Survey 1999
In 1999 the Society undertook a survey of the roadside furniture in our villages, and recorded each item photographically. Below are the albums for each village's roadside furniture survey.

Burton
Red cast iron post box with domed top. Installed when the Post Office moved to the village shop in 1996.
Plaque on Tarn Lane, adjacent to the group of trees planted in 1992 by villagers to mark the 40th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II.
Lamp post on West Side of The Square, which commemorates the marriage of HRH the Prince of Wales on the 10th March 1863. The lamp was formerly gas, is now electric.
Plaque on the 18th century Market Cross on the East Side of The Square. The plaque was installed by Burton Parish Council in 2000.

Rubbing stone by Mansion House. One of two sandstone columns 3-4 foot high, rounded on a square base. The stones were to prevent carriage wheels from hitting the wall. Also known as Klinter stones.

Road sign to Holme and Burton & Holme Station, on the junction of Station Lane and Tanpits Lane. Repaired by the Parish Council in 1996. The original top, a circle with "Westmorland" lettering, is kept in the Memorial Hall at Burton.
