THE GREAT WAR – OUR VILLAGE SOLDIERS
The Holme and District Local History Society has received a grant of £4900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to stage an exhibition commemorating the WW1 soldiers of Burton in Kendal, Holme and Beetham. The society is fortunate in having quite an archive containing much information, including photographs of our village soldiers, but further research has resulted in more detail from newspaper articles, letters, keepsakes and recollections passed down through families.
We now have information on well over 200 soldiers and the displays will include, where possible, a photograph of the soldier, where he lived, a record of his service, what became of him and any other information about him.
The exhibition will also include memorabilia and background material to the war and a souvenir book for each village about the soldiers will be available.
Admission to the exhibition is free and will be in the Burton in Kendal Memorial Hall on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October 10am to 4 pm; and in the Holme Village Hall Sunday 23rd November 10am to 4pm.
Refreshments will be available.
